Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the new ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany in the Republic of Azerbaijan Dirk Lölke on 23 September.

The Speaker congratulated the Ambassador on the start of his diplomatic tenure in Azerbaijan and wished him success in his work.

It was observed at the meeting that President Ilham Aliyev’s official visit to Germany in July this year had raised the bilateral relations to a new level. The signing during the visit of the Joint Declaration on the Strategic Agenda for Bilateral Partnership between the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Federal Republic of Germany, the establishment of the Azerbaijan-Germany Business Council are forming a new institutional platform for systemic development of the bilateral relations.

The importance of furthering the co-operation of our countries in various areas including education, humanitarian affairs and others, the role of our Parliaments in broadening the relations and the significance of reciprocal visits and dialogue were touched upon as well during the meeting.

The conversation also concerned the inter-parliamentary friendship groups, their role in the promotion of the inter-parliamentary bonds. It was remarked that the parliamentary groups of friendship have paid a number of reciprocal visits, held efficient discussions during the current year. Our MPs co-operate fruitfully also within international parliamentary organisations and there are sound opportunities to continue developing that co-operation to the backbeat of the progressing links between the two countries.

The meeting also had an exchange of opinions about other matters of shared interest.
