Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with the delegation visiting in our country and led by Vice Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia Nino Tsilosani on 25 September.

Sahiba Gafarova brought up at the meeting the current successful development of the historically present friendly and good-neighbourly relations between Azerbaijan and Georgia with reliance upon mutual trust and strategic partnership.

The special role of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the inception and progress of the two countries’ relationship was underscored.

It was said that the leaders of Azerbaijan and Georgia constantly emphasise the strategic significance of the bilateral relations. Reciprocal visits at the summit and high levels factor dramatically in the advancement of the relationship. The latest state visit of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva to Georgia carries important political messages in terms of regional co-operation whereas the Azerbaijani-Georgian amity and fraternity serve the continued strengthening of regional co-operation.

Nino Tsilosani thanked Azerbaijan for her support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia. It was stressed that the statement made by Azerbaijan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs concerning the so-called elections in the occupied territories of Georgia had met with high acclaim and that the position thus voiced is a potent political statement.

It was remarked in the conversation that the economic ties constitute one of the significant areas of the Azerbaijani-Georgian relations. The participation in the arrangement of the Second Investment Forum and the Forum’s importance for expansion of the two countries’ economic co-operation were underlined in this context.

The inter-parliamentary connections were then addressed as one of the dramatic facets of the Azerbaijani-Georgian relationship. The decoration of Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova with the Honorary Medal of the Parliament of Georgia was described as a token of the high level of the inter-parliamentary relations. For her part, Speaker Sahiba Gafarova welcomed the award warmly and characterised it as an expression of the intense importance attached to the Azerbaijani-Georgian inter-parliamentary relations.

They also paid attention to the progress of co-operation between the friendship groups active in the legislative bodies and amongst parliamentary committees. They underlined the importance of broadening relations between specialist committees on economy, sciences, education, culture and other areas, and of meetings, reciprocal visits and new initiatives for the further broadening of this co-operation.

Contentment was expressed with the joint active participation in various international events organised by our Parliaments as well as with joint activities and mutual support in international parliamentary organisations.

The meeting also saw an exchange of opinions about furthering co-operation in legislation, sciences, artificial intelligence affairs and other areas, and about broadening the exchange of experience.
