Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Received a Delegation of Latvian Republic’s Sejm
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova received on 8 June the visiting delegation led by Romāns Naudiņš, the leader of group for the promotion of the co-operation with the Azerbaijani Parliament in the Sejm of the Latvian Republic.
Madame Speaker greeted the guests warmly before referring to the big importance that Azerbaijan attaches to furthering the relations with the Baltic States in general and Latvia in particular. Azerbaijan and Latvia were then described as the friendly states and partners. Our relations, rooted in history, are based on mutual respect and equality and have set new standards qualitatively with both countries having gained independence. The conversations held during the reciprocal visits of the state leaders and the documents signed then have created a solid foundation for our co-operation to go upwards.
Madame Chair went further to say that such a political dialogue also generated fine opportunities to make major achievements in the economic sector.
She then said, regarding the connexions between the two legislatures, that the work done by the friendship groups of both parliaments serves the common goals. The mutual visits of the MPs and their regular interactions in international organisations matter immensely for discussion of the matters of shared interest.
As the conversation continued, Madame Chair informed Mr Naudiņš of Azerbaijan having liberated its own lands from the Armenian occupation and restored its territorial integrity under the guidance of Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev in the 44-day Patriotic War. The Armenian vandals had destroyed the civic and cultural facilities of Garabagh completely and had razed mosques to the ground. As for today, the reclamation and building work goes on there. Still, Armenia is refusing to give access to minefield maps and resorts to borderline provocations using terrorist squads. We count on the support of the international community in this matter, according to Madame Chair.
The leader of the Latvian Sejm’s Group for the promotion of the co-operation with the Azerbaijani Parliament Romāns Naudiņš voiced the appreciation of the kind reception before witnessing the interest of his country in deepening the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian co-operation with Azerbaijan. According to Mr Naudiņš, the high-notch reciprocal visits demonstrate their positive effect on the parliamentary plane, too. Such contacts are tremendously important for information exchange, in his opinion.
Future routes of interparliamentary co-operation and its development as well as of the interaction under the aegis of international organisations, and other matters of concern to both sides were discussed at the meeting, too.
