Imposing a corrective penalty on MP Konul Nurullayeva was discussed at a meeting of the Disciplinary Commission of the Milli Majlis held on 13 November. It was mentioned during it that the thoughts that MP Nurullayeva had chosen to voice in her live interview to Turkey’s TV Net on 12 November contradicted the state policy of Azerbaijan and conveyed the standpoint of neither the Azerbaijani society nor the Milli Majlis.

When asked about the idea of demanding war reparations from Armenia for the damage the Armenians had dealt to Garabagh, Konul Nurullayeva replied that the Armenian economy had collapsed completely, its foreign debts had mounted and the social welfare system was in a catastrophic condition. Given the situation, it would not be necessary to demand that Azerbaijan should be recompensed, she opined.

Whereas, the Commission members believe that it is our right to demand compensation from Armenia, which has committed repeated aggression acts against the Azerbaijani people these 200 years past, encroached upon our lands and held the Highland Garabagh region and the provinces surrounding it under occupation for 30 years during which Armenia wreaked horrendous destruction in those territories, dealt billions of manats’ worth of damage to Azerbaijan’s citizens, national economy and heritage as well as committed the Khojali Genocide. Besides, there is a relevant procedure stipulated in the international laws.

It was further emphasised that each and every MP speaking about the Patriotic War and the paramount rights of our nation had to be governed by the sense of responsibility and make certain he or she took the national interests of Azerbaijan into account.

The deliberations culminated in the decision of the Disciplinary Commission to impose a disciplinary sanction on MP Konul Nurullayeva.
