Chairman of the Milli Majlis Committee for International Relations and Inter-parliamentary Connexions Samad Seyidov on 14 June had a meeting with the ambassador of the Kingdom of Norway accredited in Azerbaijan Erling Skjønsberg.

Mr Seyidov welcomed Mr Skjønsberg, then, he spoke of the current state of the relations between our countries, the achievements made during the time in which Mr Skjønsberg was ambassador to our country, and the co-operation in the education and humanitarian fields.

The progressive innovations of the Milli Majlis of the sixth convention, its making as a multi-party parliament, the broad representation of the opposition parties in the chairmanship and committee leadership of the Azerbaijani legislature and the formation of a Milli Majlis working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Norway were all broached, too.

It was then said that Azerbaijan had liberated its lands during the 44-day Patriotic War with reliance upon the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council and the international law’s stipulations. Acceptance of the new reality by countries of the world and by international organisations would provide a serious support to reinforcing peace and stability in the region, Mr Seyidov remarked confidently.

In turn, the Norwegian ambassador to Azerbaijan Erling Skjønsberg reiterated his country’s unvaried support for the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He added that Norway was for building dialogues in the name of sustainable peace and stability in the region and advocated solution of problems between Azerbaijan and Armenia by way of negotiations. The government of Norway attaches importance to the co-operation with Azerbaijan in every area, Mr Skjønsberg pointed out.

It was remarked during the conversation that the Trilateral Statement that had ended the 44 days’ war was at the same time a warranty of enduring peace and future development in the region. The need in a constructive approach to solving problems and differences of opinions for the sake of peace and stability in the region was stressed at the meeting. In this connection were mentioned the activities of the dedicated Working Group co-chaired by Deputy Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan, Russia and Armenia.

Mr Seyidov and Mr Skjønsberg also shared their views of expansion of the inter-parliamentary ties, co-operation prospects and exchange of experience during the conversation.
