The 57th plenary session of the General Assembly of the Black Sea Economic Co-operation (PABSEC) was held in an online format on 22 June.

PABSEC Deputy Chairman and leader of the Azerbaijani delegation to the organisation Eldar Guliyev as well as delegation members Eldar Ibrahimov, Musa Guliyev and Ramin Mammadov represented the Milli Majlis at the session.

First came the positive solution to the admission of the Republic of North Macedonia as a PABSEC full member. PABSEC Secretary General Asaf Hajiyev announced that though North Macedonia’s full membership was to begin in January 2020, its delegation could take part in all the PABSEC sessions and meetings holding the deliberative voice as of today.

Then, a new PABSEC chairman was elected due to the expiry of the tenure of the previous one. Chairman of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania Ludovic Orban was elected the new chairman.

Besides, the mandates of the new MPs in the national delegations, the minutes of the 56th plenum of the PABSEC General Assembly and the PABSEC performance report for the six months past were approved at the session.

The election of new deputy chairs of the PABSEC was followed by deliberations upon the committees’ reports on ‘The Role of Parliaments in Preventing Human Trafficking’ together with the accompanying recommendations. The economic, legal and political aspects of the topic were discussed under the chairmanship of the leader of the Azerbaijani delegation Eldar Guliyev.

The last matter that the General Assembly looked at was the financial audit report; it, too, was discussed and approved duly.

It was announced at the end of the gathering that the 58th plenum of the PABSEC General Assembly was scheduled to be held in Romania on 25 November.
