A Meeting at Milli Majlis

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and Chairman of the parliamentary Committee for Public Associations and Religious Entities Fazail Ibrahimli met on 29 June with the fact-finding mission of Turkey’s Human Rights and Equality Association for the freed Azerbaijani territories.

Fazail Ibrahimli said he was glad to welcome the delegation led by the above-mentioned Association’s Chairman Suleyman Arslan in the victorious Azerbaijan. He made a point of noting that the victory had been won thanks to national consolidation, the state’s economic might and the valour of its army, all brought about by the leadership capacity and strategist’s talent of Azerbaijan’s President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev. Praising highly the Turkish support to Azerbaijan’s just cause, the Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis said that Azerbaijan and Turkey occupied their deservedly dignified places amongst the countries of the world and faced all threats together.

The Chairman of the Human Rights and Equality Association Suleyman Arslan remarked that Turkey and Azerbaijan fought global imperialism jointly just as they did a hundred years ago. The Association, he added, was prepared to extend all kinds of support in the international arena in defence of the Azerbaijani brothers’ rights.

Azerbaijan’s Commissioner (ombudsman) for Human Rights Sabina Aliyeva who attended the meeting spoke about the moral support to us from the leadership and people of the fraternal Turkey from the very first days of the 44 days’ Patriotic War; she emphasised the assistance with the human rights defence. Besides, Mrs Aliyeva lauded the establishment of the Garabagh Group of the Turkish Human Rights and Equality Association. The Turkish delegation will inspect the war-stricken provinces during their current visit, according to Mrs Aliyeva.

The Chairman of the Milli Majlis Human Rights Committee Zahid Oruj who, too, was present at the meeting talked about the values holding Azerbaijan and Turkey together and stressed the importance of maintaining and continuing that unity.

The hosts answered the visitors’ questions then. There was also an exchange of views upon the matters of mutual interest.
