Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 17 July with the members of the Garabagh Amputee Football Club made up of the First Garabagh War, April Engagement and Patriotic War gazies with health deprivations.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova greeted the gazies and told them that she meeting our heroes who lost their health in battle for the freedom of our land and the integrity of our country filled her with pride.

‘By demonstrating in the sporting arenas the same valour you had evinced to the world in battlefield, you have achieved success at international tournaments as a football team that bears the name of our native Garabagh. This is a testimony to the great willpower of each of you and to the unbendable morale of our people,’ said the Chair of the Milli Majlis.

Our people had formed an iron fist rallying around Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev at the time of the 44-day Patriotic War; they ended the thirty-year-long Armenian occupation and restored the territorial integrity of their country. The problem of Highland Garabagh is history already, as Mrs Gafarova pointed out. Lamentably, a war does not go without losses. We lost our valiant sons at the war; besides, there are many wounded servicemen. We pay tribute to the memory of our shahids; we ask the Almighty that those wounded in action recover and we wish our gazies good health, Mrs Gafarova continued.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis then emphasised that no damage, no ache and no calamity could make our people lose heart, as is proven with abundant clarity by the example set by the members of the Garabagh Amputee FC.

Then, Madame Chair told them of how the Parliament of Azerbaijan was working on telling the world community, national parliaments and international organisations of the region’s reality and of the Armenian atrocities in that period. She also brought up the laws, resolutions and other legal documents passed on the war’s eve.

Garabagh Amputee FC Executive Director Abbas Yusifov, Team Captain Chinghiz Mammadov, Head Coach Ramil Habibov and the founder of the club Jamila Abdullayeva told in detail of the activities of the club, the footballers’ achievements and future plans.

Madame Chair took interest in the matters on the FC members’ minds; she wished them success.

Chief of the Milli Majlis Staff Safa Mirzayev and other officials attended the meeting as well.
