At the Meeting of the Committee for Regional Affairs

The Milli Majlis Committee for Regional Affairs held a scheduled meeting on 13 November.

The Committee Chairman Siyavush Novruzov who opened the meeting said that, in the 44-day combat led by the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, the Azerbaijani Army had recovered our lands held in Armenian occupation for 30 years because of Armenia’s foreign patrons. The president of the Azerbaijan Republic, the prime minister of the Republic of Armenia and the president of the Russian Federation signed a joint declaration on 10 November by which Azerbaijan’s complete victory in the Patriotic War was confirmed officially. Having suffered a severe defeat at the hands of our Army, the Armenians had given in unconditionally. Azerbaijan makes conditions and dictates its will in further developments from now on. Mr Novruzov said also that, pursuant to that declaration, a land shortcut was going to connect Azerbaijan and Turkey, and Turkey and Russia. Besides, and it is essential, there will be a transport corridor leading to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic.

Siyavush Novruzov underscored the special activity of the Milli Majlis leadership and of the MPs during the days fateful to our country.

Then, the Committee Chairman briefed the assembled on the agenda of the meeting. He told them that, as a legislative initiative of the President, the agenda contained the Bills ‘On Renaming the Gushchubaba Village in the Khojali Province as Baharli’ and ‘On Renaming the Tsakuri Village in the Khojavend province as Hunerli’. Following the documents, the village of Gushchubaba in the Khojali Province is to be renamed as Baharli. The village of Tsakuri situated in the Chiraguz rural district of the Khojavend Province is to be renamed as Hunerli.

It was said that the renaming of the Baharli village in the Khojavend Province upon the initiative of the President was justifiable geographically as well as due to its compliance with the Azerbaijani lexicon. Besides, the new place name matters in that it will express the triumph of Azerbaijan.

As regards the Tsakuri village in the Khojavend Province, the Committee Chairman remarked that our heroic Army had liberated it a few days back, and it was renamed Hunerli at the suggestion of the President for the new name bears the prowess and might that the Azerbaijani Army had demonstrated in the course of the Patriotic War.

Then, the MPs Mazahir Efendiyev and Tahir Rzayev spoke on the items on the agenda; they said that the new names being given to our villages were crucial in that they would communicate the present-day realia to the future generations.

Both Bills were recommended at the end of the meeting for submission for consideration at a plenary session of the Milli Majlis.
