Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarov, currently in the Austrian capital of Vienna on a working visit, met with Marshal of the Senate of Poland Tomasz Grodzki on 7 September.

Broaching the subject of the progress in the relationship between the Azerbaijani and Polish states and nations at the meeting, Sahiba Gafarova spoke of the importance for this progress of reciprocal visits by the heads of state and governmental officials as well as of the documents the parties have signed to date. Speaker Sahiba Gafarova also referred to the successful co-operation between Azerbaijan and Poland in a number of areas.

Our country deems it important to further the connexions with Poland, noted the chair of the Milli Majlis before voicing satisfaction with the current level of the interaction between the two legislatures.

Speaker S Gafarova then told of the new realia in our region upon the end of the 44 days’ Patriotic War and the signing of the Trilateral Statement on 10 November last year. She drew her colleague’s attention to that Azerbaijan had freed its lands from the Armenian occupation and restored its national wholeness thusly depending solely on its own powers in 2020. While so doing, our country also enforced the relevant resolutions of the UN Security Council. That conflict is history now; Azerbaijan is interested in lasting peace and stability in the region and has taken certain steps to that end, according to the chair of the Milli Majlis. Currently, Azerbaijan is also busy restoring and rearranging its de-occupied lands, Madame Speaker remarked. Armenia, meanwhile, is committing provocations and breaching the stability still. The attention of the marshal of the Polish Senate was then drawn to the provocations on the part of Armenia.

Marshal of the Senate of Poland Tomasz Grodzki, in turn, touched on the importance of reinforcing the inter-parliamentary co-operation and intensifying mutual visits. Poland is interested in furthering the connexions with Azerbaijan, Mr Grodzki said before stressing the necessity of maintaining peace and stability in the region.

Several topics of interest to both sides were discussed at the meeting as well.
