Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Chair of House of Councillors of Japan Parliament

    Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova who is in the Austrian capital city of Vienna on a working visit now met with Chair of the House of Councillors of the Parliament of Japan Akiko Santō on 7 September.

    Welcoming the Japanese colleague, the chair of the Milli Majlis congratulated Akiko Santō on the successful completion of the ‘Tokyo-2020’ 32nd Summer Olympic Games. Mrs Gafarova voiced Azerbaijan’s interest in furthering the connexions with Japan and stressed the important role an exchange of high-level visits played in this matter.

   The progress of the bilateral relations encompassing multiple areas was mentioned; it was said also that the documents our states had signed to date formed the legal foundation for those relations.

   Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the importance of the work done by the reciprocal relations groups active in both legislatures as she was talking about the relations between the parliaments of Azerbaijan and Japan.

   As the meeting went on, Mrs Gafarova provided Mrs Santō with detailed information about the new realia having set in across our region, about Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War and about the work done by our country to implement the Trilateral Statement signed on 10 November last year. On another note, the provocations by Armenia impeding the maintenance of peace and stability in the region were mentioned, too.

   Chair of the House of Councillors of the Parliament of Japan Akiko Santō welcomed Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and expressed the interest of her country in developing the relations with Azerbaijan. She said also that, similarly to many areas, there is an immense development potential behind the inter-parliamentary connexions between Azerbaijan and Japan also.

    The meeting saw an exchange of views upon a number of other topics of shared interest. The parliament speakers also invited each other to pay visits to their respective countries.
