A Meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States and the 51st Plenary Sitting of the Assembly Have Taken Place

A meeting of the Council of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and the 51st plenary sitting of the IPA were both held on 27 November.

The delegations of Azerbaijan, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kirghizstan, Moldova, Russian Federation, Tajikistan and Uzbekistan as well as the representatives of a number of international organisations took part in the event held in the videoconferencing mode.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis and leader of the Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to the IPA CIS Sahiba Gafarova took part in the meeting, too.

Organisational matters were looked at and the Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matviyenko was re-elected as Chair of the IPA CIS Council.

Then, the event participants considered the legislative steps taken in the CIS member-states in connection with the COVID-19 pandemic, the state of affairs with the economic integration in Eurasia as well as the relevant prospects and the regulatory and legal support for the integration, the preparations for the monitoring of the elections to the public authorities of the CIS states due in 2021, the areas of co-operation between the IPA CIS and the PACE, the IPA CIS work plan for 2021 as well as several administrative and financial issues. The pertaining deliberations were followed up with appropriate decisions being made at the event.
