At the Meeting of the Youth and Sports Committee of Milli Majlis

The Milli Majlis Committee for Youth and Sports held its first autumn-session meeting remotely on 17 September.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and Committee Chairman Adil Aliyev wished the MPs success during the current session and told them that the agenda of the meeting included the past-period performance report and the work plan for the autumn session of the parliament. Vice Speaker drew the meeting participants’ attention to the tremendous tasks that befall the parliament in the cause of securing and solidifying our historic Victory.

Then, Mr Aliyev informed the assembled of what had been done during both the spring and the extraordinary sessions of 2021. He told them of the efficient work done by the Youth and Sports Committee and of it having discharged in a worthy manner its obligations in the context of the reforms afoot in the country. Necessary steps had been taken to improve the existing legislative frameworks. Thirteen issues had been considered at the ten meetings held by the Committee. The MPs had been joining a number of local and international events dedicated to various pressing subjects. At the same time, they had been active in both national and overseas mass media telling their audiences of the current developments in the country, of the work under way in the social, economic and humanitarian areas and of the achievements made so far.

The report period saw the Committee receive the aggregate of 437 letters, applications and documents from individual citizens, departments and organisations. In addition, more than 1,000 applications had come from the social networks thanks to the implementation of advance technologies. Most of the issues raised in the incoming correspondence, both hard-copy and electronic, have been resolved already; some are in the pipeline. The Committee members had also been receiving citizens individually; there, too, many of the citizens’ concerns have been addressed successfully already.

According to the chairman of the Committee, there had been a string of meetings with youth, athletes, shahid family members, gazies and Patriotic War veterans in the past period. They had been given various awards and honorary certificates in recognition of their achievements. Last but not least, the members of the parliamentary committee had actively participated in several social functions and charity actions.

Going further, Adil Aliyev shared the information about the work plan for the Committee to busy itself with during the 2021 autumn session. Certain Bills, either submitted in the context of legislative initiatives or containing amendments to effective laws, will be considered during the session, Mr Aliyev said. Amongst them are the Physical Culture and Sports Bill and the Youth Policy Bill. Further, a number of activities are scheduled for the present session. The Committee members will be actively involved in enlightenment work given the current year is declared The Nizami Ganjavi Year, the ‘Letting Live is as Beautiful as Living’ campaign and the implementation of the ‘Patriotic Pupils’ Project.

Opinions about the work done by the Committee during the two parliamentary sessions past were offered by its Deputy Chairman Shahin Ismayilov and MPs Javid Osmanov, Ulvi Guliyev, Konul Nurullayeva, Sevinj Huseynova and Mahir Abbaszade. The speakers touched on the important steps taken in the youth policy context, the state programmes being implemented and the arrangements made for the youth to make certain they grow and form healthy, educated and patriotic. The MPs also made several proposals of their own.

The Committee members Elnur Allahverdiyev, Mushfig Jafarov, Jala Ahmadova, Etibar Aliyev, Ramil Hasan, Vugar Iskandarov and Jabi Guliyev also took part in the online meeting.
