Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova who is in Kazakhstan on an official visit met with the Kazakh President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev on 29 September.

President Tokayev greeted Speaker Gafarova warmly before indicating his satisfaction with the high level of the relations between Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan. He said as he was congratulating our country on the victory in the Patriotic War that our ancient relations had evolved yet further upon the two states having gained independence. The relationship nurtured by the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev and the First President of Kazakhstan Nursultan Nazarbayev are being furthered by the two states’ leaders successfully now, according to President Kasim-Jomart Tokayev who asked his greetings to be passed on to President Ilham Aliyev.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova thanked for the cordial reception and expressed the gratitude for the greetings addressed to President Ilham Aliyev. The relations between Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan had set the completely new standards after the two states had become independent. It is good to know, Mrs Gafarova added, that we are going to mark the thirtieth anniversary of the bilateral diplomatic relations next year.

Further, the Chair of the Milli Majlis informed the President of Kazakhstan of the linkage between our parliaments. The bipartite interaction is moving upwardly in the parliamentary dimension, too, she remarked. There are the friendship groups active in both legislative assemblies. Azerbaijani and Kazakh MPs exchange visits and hold periodical meetings under the auspices of the influential international parliamentary organisations thusly contributing to the advancement of the bilateral bonds. As she was saying this, Madame Speaker emphasised the importance of our co-operation under the aegis of the TurkPA.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Mrs Gafarova proceeded to let President of Kazakhstan Mr Tokayev know in every particular the victory that Azerbaijan had gained in the 44-day Patriotic War and about the new situation established in the region. The Army of Azerbaijan led by Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev ridded our lands of the Armenian occupation of thirty years and made the national territory of the country whole again in 2020. Incidentally, the Azerbaijani side also enforced, on its own completely, the resolutions of the UN Security Council. The Garabagh Conflict is commissioned to history annals now whereas Azerbaijan is busy with the restoration and building work under way in its liberated territories. Madame Speaker did not omit to mention that Armenia had razed to the ground brutally the towns and villages situated in those provinces as well as monuments of our people’s history and culture and its mosques. The delegation of Kazakhstan did come to Azerbaijan and, during that visit, travelled to both the Shusha and Fuzuli provinces; so, they were able to see for themselves the consequences of the Armenian vandalism that had raged on there.

Broaching Armenia’s policy of genocide pursued in regard to Azerbaijan then, the Chair of the Milli Majlis stated a wish that the parliament of Kazakhstan, too, would put forth its attitude to the matter ahead of the forthcoming thirtieth anniversary of the Khojali Genocide.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and Leader of its Working Group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Kazakhstan Adil Aliyev, a Milli Majlis committee chairman Ahliman Amiraslanov and Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Agalar Atamoglanov were taking part in the meeting as well.
