Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on 29 September Chairman of the Senate of the Kazakhstan Parliament Maulen Ashimbayev as part of her current official visit to that country.

The Chairman of the Kazakhstan Parliament’s Senate welcomed the Chair of the Milli Majlis, congratulated Azerbaijan on the victory in the Patriotic War, touched on the subject of the bilateral diplomatic relations and spoke about the progress of our ties in the period of independence.

The common values binding Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan were mentioned. Mr Ashimbayev talked about the solid potential to tap to broaden the connexions. He also praised the contribution Azerbaijan had made to the co-operation under the aegis of the TurkPA and shared his thoughts about the inter-parliamentary relations growth prospects.

Sahiba Gafarova thanked for the sincere welcome and witnessed her satisfaction with the visit to Kazakhstan as well as the discussions and meetings held during the 10th plenary sitting of the TurkPA.

The two states’ leaders play a special part in the expansion of the bipartite co-operation, in the opinion of Sahiba Gafarova. A strong legal base underpinning the bilateral relations has been built over the years past; the friendship groups active in both legislatures work with utmost yield on broadening our inter-parliamentary connexions, Mrs Gafarova was saying.

As she underlined the progress of the relations between the two countries, Sahiba Gafarova said she was certain that the co-operation would continue expanding during the Kazakh chairmanship in the TurkPA. The significance of the economic ties was referred to as well; the Azerbaijani companies doing business in Kazakhstan and the Kazakh ones following suit in Azerbaijan were lauded, too.

It is necessary to continue our interaction in the regional and international organisations as that interaction is beneficial to our countries and nations, according to the Chair of the Milli Majlis.

Our countries’ interaction under the aegis of the Co-operation Council of Turkic-Speaking States was praised in the course of the conversation, besides.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis noted as she was telling of the victory of Azerbaijan in the 44-day Patriotic War that our victorious Army led by President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev had freed the Azerbaijani lands from the thirty-year-long Armenian occupation. In that way, our country made its national territory intact again. The conflict is in the realm of history already, the status of Garabagh has been struck off the agenda once and for all and Azerbaijan is restoring and rebuilding its liberated territories. Armenia had destroyed and plundered our towns and villages during the occupation, which is why those territories resemble Hiroshima. The members of the delegation of the Kazakh Parliament who were in Azerbaijan recently went to those provinces and could eyewitness the reality settled in them.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis also told her colleague of the approaching thirtieth anniversary of the Khojali Genocide committed by Armenia against Azerbaijan. The parliaments of many countries have recognised the genocide already, and it would be good if the Parliament of Kazakhstan would do the same, Mrs Gafarova noted.

There was an exchange of opinions about other topics of shared interest at the meeting as well.

After that, Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and members of her delegation went to the Astana-Bayterek Monument in the town of Nursultan and were supplied with complete information about it.

Chair of the International Relations, Defence and Security Committee of the Kazakh Parliament’s Mazhilis Aygul Kuspan was accompanying our delegation.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and Leader of its Working Group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Kazakhstan Adil Aliyev, a Milli Majlis committee chairman Ahliman Amiraslanov, MPs Fazil Mustafa, Hikmat Mammadov, Nizami Jafarov, Javanshir Feyziyev and Agalar Valiyev, Chief of the Milli Majlis Staff Safa Mirzayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Kazakhstan Agalar Atamoglanov and other officials attended the meeting as well.
