Chair of the Culture Committee of the Milli Majlis Ganira Pashayeva opened the committee meeting convened on 6 October by announcing as the order of business election of the fielded candidate members of the Broadcasting Board of the Public TV and Radio Company.

According to Mrs Pashayeva, the six-year tenures of the BB candidates from the Council of Entrepreneurs, youth organisations and women’s societies, determined by the Public Telecasting and Broadcasting Law, expired on 29 May 2021, which is why the following candidate members have to be considered:

Nominated by the Council of Entrepreneurs: Vugar Eldar oglu Zeynalov (Vice President of the National Confederation of Enterprising (Employer) Organisations) and Ilhama Khanlar ghizi Abdullayeva (Head of the PR Department of the same Confederation);

Nominated by the youth organisations: Azer Ruslan oglu Aliyev (Chairman of the National Council of Youth Organisations of the Azerbaijan Republic) and Ulviya Suleyman ghizi Akhundova (Chairwoman of the ‘Civil Society Debates’ Public Association);

And nominated by the women’s societies: Sevil Sharif ghizi Yusifova (President of the Association of Women Journalists of Azerbaijan) and Zaranghiz Demirchi ghizi Mansurova (Deputy Chair of the Women’s Council of the World Azerbaijanis’ Culture Centre).

Ganira Pashayeva pointed out that one candidate in each pair had to be elected, again, subject to the PTB Law.

Opinions and proposals were voiced by Deputy Chair of the Committee Fazil Mustafa and MP Nizami Jafarov. Those legislators also shared their thoughts about the current situation in the TV sector of the country.

In the end, the Committee recommended that election of the future members of the PTBC Broadcasting Board should be relegated to the plenum of the Milli Majlis.

The MPs Novruz Aslanov, Javanshir Feyziyev, Aziz Alakbarli, Ulviya Agayeva, Mikhail Zabelin and Ulviya Hamzayeva took part in the remotely-held committee meeting as well.
