Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and chairman of the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev went to Salyan Province for a shahid commemoration ceremony on 6 October.

Adil Aliyev, the head of the provincial executive authority Sevindik Khatamov and MP Jala Aliyeva elected for that province visited the Great Leader Heydar Aliyev’s monument before the Deputy Speaker and several local officials and elders headed out to a meeting with the Patriotic War shahid families and gazies.

Our lands – ours ancestrally and forever – were freed from the enemy occupation and the national territory of the country was made whole again thanks to the valour of the Azerbaijani Army led by President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, it was said at the ceremony.

Adil Aliyev stressed that the Armenian aggression in the Azerbaijani lands held in the occupation’s grip for thirty years had only been cut short within 44 days. We are indebted to the Motherland’s sons for our historic Victory, according to Mr Aliyev who also spoke of the high-level care and attention to the shahid families and the gazies manifested by President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva. The head of the state checked after the progress of the restoration and building work in the freed areas during his recent travels to the Sugovushan settlement and Jabrayil Province, and said, ‘Our Garabagh has got a new lease of life.’

MP Jala Ahmadova who was at the ceremony, too, said that the year 2020 had gone down in our history as a victory year, that our mighty army led by the victorious Commander-in-Chief had restored the country’s territorial integrity and that the heroic sons of our nation had fought bravely and had sacrificed their lives without a second thought for this sacred cause.

The speakers at the event broached the shahids’ combat path; the victory gained at the cost of their lives is the biggest historical milestone for the country, they added. Prayers were said for the war’s dead. Our people constantly rally around the president and make up a clenched fist, it was said at the ceremony.

‘Garabagh is Azerbaijan!’ was the slogan that was uttered to close the gathering.
