Member of Milli Majlis Speaks at Conference on Counter-Terrorism

A conference ‘The Regional Policy Dialogue with South-Eastern European Legislators about Conviction, Rehabilitation and Reintegration of Foreign Terrorists’ organised jointly by the OSCE and the OSCE PA took place in the hybrid format on 14-15 October.

The leader of the delegation of the Milli Majlis to the OSCE PA and the OSCE PA Vice President and Special Representative for SE Europe Azay Guliyev took part in the conference alongside the OSCE PA President Margareta Cederfelt, the Minister for the Interior of Greece Makis Voridis,  the Under-Secretary for the UN Counter-Terrorism Office Vladimir Voronkov, the Co-ordinator of the Activities to Address Transnational Threats at the OSCE Secretariat Alena Kupchyna, members of the SE European national parliaments, delegates from international organisations and scientists.

During the two days’ conference there were exchanges of thoughts and experience in global and regional counter-terrorism, criminal trials and fair investigations, interchanging information amongst states, repatriation and post-conviction handling.

Azay Guliyev who took part in the event under his special representative’s mandate, delivered a concluding speech at the assembly. MP Guliyev mentioned that the important roles of parliaments in tackling terrorism challenges had been underlined in the course of the deliberations. He also underlined the significance of efficient inter-state co-ordination and inter-parliamentary dialogue in combatting extremism and radicalisation. The regional co-operation in SE Europe and the global interaction are equally necessary for the elimination and prevention of threats of terrorism, said MP Guliyev.
