A Meeting with Ukrainian MPs at Milli Majlis
First Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis, Chairman of the parliamentary Committee for Law Policy and State-Building Ali Huseynli met with members of the Ukrainian Supreme Rada’s Group for inter-parliamentary friendship with Azerbaijan on 16 October.
Ali Huseynli welcomed the guests and expressed satisfaction with the arrival in our country of a Ukrainian delegation on the eve of the thirtieth anniversary of Azerbaijan’s regained independence. He said also that Azerbaijan, led by Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev, had put paid to the thirty-year-long Armenian occupation of its lands and made its national territory whole again last year. That conflict is history already; meanwhile, Mr Huseynli continued, Azerbaijan is busy eliminating the grave consequences of the occupation of its now free lands. He informed the Ukrainian guests of that work. He also highly praised the support that the Ukrainian state and people had given the just cause of our country from the very first day of the 44 days’ war.
Then, the First Deputy Speaker talked about the contribution to the continued expansion of our connexions coming from the work done by the bilateral friendship groups that are active in both parliaments and about strengthening the co-operation between the legislatures of Azerbaijan and Ukraine under the aegis of the international institutions. Mr Huseynli marked his belief in a continued intensification of the Azerbaijani-Ukrainian relations.
The co-chairmen of the Ukraine-Azerbaijan friendship group of the Supreme Rada Valeriy Kolyuh and Vladimir Kreydenko, group members Lyudmila Marchenko and Maryan Zablotsky and the leader of the Ukrainian-based ‘Azerbaijanis’ Solidarity Diaspora’ Hikmat Javadov spoke at the meeting as well. They highlighted the input in the deepening of our relations made by the heads of the states. The guests described Azerbaijan’s Victory as a triumph of justice. In their opinion, the people of Azerbaijan having united into one fist under President, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyev was a tremendous victory driver.
The Supreme Rada members wished Azerbaijan success in its restoration and building labours in the lands that are delivered from the occupation. The day is nigh, they added confidently, when all the internally displaced people will return to their homelands and life will once again be in full swing in the territories ransacked by the Armenians.
The issue of the Parliament of Ukraine passing a decision regarding the Khojali Genocide was raised during the conversation, too. Also, they talked over various aspects of the co-operation, relevant prospects and other subjects.
The leader of the Milli Majlis Working Group for the inter-parliamentary relations Azerbaijan-Ukraine Rufat Guliyev, MP Anar Mammadov, other members of the Supreme Rada Group of inter-parliamentary friendship with Azerbaijan and more officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
