Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Adil Aliyev took part in the 13^th Convent of the Russian International Studies Association held at the Moscow State Institute of International Relations on 14-16 October and spoke on ‘Sustainable Development and the ESG Transformation’ at the plenum there.

Mr Aliyev underlined the special relevance of the climatic changes and energy transformations discussed at the Convent to Azerbaijan. That is precisely why, Adil Aliyev continued, the Environmental Public Council was established under the auspices of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, the IDEA Public Association is in action and the National Alliance for Sustainable Azerbaijan (DANMA) was established at the suggestion of the IDEA Public Association’s founder Leyla Aliyeva at the dawn of the current year.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis went further to tell the audience about the serious socio-economic progress of Azerbaijan over the past years and about President Ilham Aliyev being intent on environmental problems. All that had brought about a substantial improvement of the environmental as well as the socio-economic situation in the country all of the state departments of which work on implementing the sustainable development principles and ideology. The Government put together a strategic development plan in 2016-2017 with a special stress placed on Azerbaijan’s Development Concept-2020. Economic diversification, creation of more jobs and making infrastructure, education, social and health services more accessible and better in quality continuously are the growth priorities of the country, Mr Aliyev was saying.

A lot of work is to be done to restore the natural environment and the socio-economic condition of the liberated provinces of the country where populated localities and infrastructural facilities are rebuilt, airports and bridges are constructed, roads and tunnels are laid, other facilities are erected and power and water supply lines are installed. Everything is done to make certain that the IDP can return home as soon as practicable.

Our country ranked the 69^th in global competitiveness in 2017 but rose to the 32^nd position by 2019, Mr Aliyev mentioned.

It should be mentioned that the 13^th Convent of the RISA is held with the support of the Priority 2030 academic leadership strategic programme and that there have been several multilateral discussions, dialogues and events arranged by academic and industrial entities on the sidelines of the assembly.
