Shamkir Province Pays Tribute to Memory of Patriotic War Shahid Lieutenant Colonel Rashad Sadigov

The one year’s wake of Lieutenant Colonel Rashad Khanlar oglu Sadigov, now within the array of the Patriotic War shahids, went in the Shamkir Province with the provincial administration seniors, representatives of the Milli Majlis and personnel of the N military detachment in which he had served in attendance.

First, those assembled to commemorate the Lieutenant Colonel fallen for the Motherland visited his graveside and adorned it with flowers. At the wake proper that followed, prayers were said for the souls of all the shahids; the tribute of deepest respect was paid to their memories. The speakers were saying that the remarkable victory we had in the Patriotic War last year had become one of the brightest episodes in the Azerbaijani statehood history scrolls and that the Azerbaijani Army led by Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev showed its might to the whole world as it restored the territorial wholeness of its country as well as historical justice in the 44 days’ War.

The treasured memory of the Motherland’s heroic sons, the brave patriots who sacrificed their lives for this Victory and the freedom of our lands, will live in the public heart forever, the speakers stressed.

Lieutenant Colonel Rashad Sadigov was born in the Lachin Province on 11 October 1978. He was in his complete secondary studies at the school No 2 in the town of Lachin in 1984-1992 – until, that is, the Sadigov family moved to the town of Shamkir after the Armenian troops had captured Lachin in May 1992. In Shamkir, Mr Sadigov continued his studies at the secondary school No 2 in 1992-1995 and in 1995-1999 he was a cadet of the Baku Higher Combined Arms Command School (BHCACS). Even before the Patriotic War started, Mr Sadigov had been awarded more than a dozen medals for the exemplary and professional military service. He served with the N detachment of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan stationed in the Shahbuz Province during 1999-2004; in 2004 he worked at the Heydar Aliyev Military Lyceum of Nakhchivan and served at the Military Commissioner’s Office and a military hospital in the same town later on. In the Patriotic War that began on 27 September 2020 for liberation of the Armenian-occupied provinces and restoration of the territorial integrity of our country, Rashad Sadigov fought for the Jabrayil, Gubadli and Lachin provinces. Lieutenant Colonel Rashad Sadigov was killed in action in the battle of Lachin on 30 October.

For the meritorious discharge of the combat duties set before his military unit Lieutenant Colonel Rashad Sadigov is posthumously decorated with the medals ‘For the Motherland’, ‘For Liberation of Jabrayil’, ‘For Liberation of Gubadli’ and ‘For Liberation of Lachin’ to the relevant decrees of President Ilham Aliyev.

Returning to the wake, those present at it emphasised that the nation would treasure and honour the memory of such of its sons as Rashad forevermore.

Also, the Administration of the country were thanked for the care of the shahid families and gazies.
