A Meeting at Milli Majlis
Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Committee for International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Sevinj Fataliyeva had a meeting with the representatives of the EU Dialogues Project on 23 November.
Following the greetings, Sevinj Fataliyeva pointed it out to the visitors that a new situation had been established in the region after Azerbaijan’s victory in the Patriotic War. She also told them about the grave consequences of the thirty-year-long Armenian occupation of the already-freed Azerbaijani lands and the new realia and co-operation opportunities that had emerged as a result of the expulsion of the invaders from our territory.
The leader of the EU project group Tanya Tamminen shared information about the Dialogues Project and the work done by her group, which, by the way, is busy with several South Caucasus peace initiatives right now. Mrs Tamminen underlined the necessity of efforts to organise a dialogue and put forward new ideas for peace in the South Caucasus after the conclusion of the Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict. She also stressed the significance of a possible dialogue on various topicalities and at different levels.
Mrs Fataliyeva replied by saying that Azerbaijan had always been committed to the dialogue that could be so arranged as to encompass various thematic fields. First, however, the matter needs resolving politically. Azerbaijan demonstrates the maximum constructivism, treats the opposing side humanely and motions co-operation and peace suggestions even after having freed its lands from the Armenian occupation as a result of a decisive victory. It is essential that Armenia should honour its obligations, MP Fataliyeva pointed out: it has been a year since the war was over, after all, and yet, Armenia had not taken a single real step to that end since.
Other matters of shared interest were discussed, too, as the conversation went on.
