A memorial complex dedicated to the shahids of the First Garabagh and Patriotic wars was opened in the Yasamal District of Baku.

The inauguration went with the attendance of Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Adil Aliyev, parliamentary committee chairs and MPs, the head of the Yasamal District Executive Authority Elshad Hasanov, university rectors, shahid families, the chiefs of the district law enforcement authorities, clerics and members of the local public.

The names of the 339 shahids of both wars who had lived in the Yasamal District of the capital are engraved on the memorial. The complex also includes a park and a drinking-fountain named in their honour.

After the national anthem had sounded, the assembled had a minute of silence in memory of the shahids and then put flowers and wreaths at the memorial, being accompanied by the Guards of Honour.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/Chairman of the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev spoke at the event. He talked about our lands having been liberated from the enemy occupation forever and our glorious tricolour flying in the skies above the Motherland proudly thanks to the unparalleled courage that our Army led by President and the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev had shown in battle. Our country ended the three decades of Armenian occupation in only 44 days, made its territory whole again and demonstrated its strength to the world. Each one of us treasures the memory and sacred spirit of the Motherland’s sons fallen in action for its integrity and independence. Mr Aliyev also underlined the significance of the memorial complexes constructed in various towns and provinces of the country to the shahids’ glory.

In turn, the Yasamal District Administration’s head Elshad Hasanov described the complex as an embodiment of the awe of the shahids’ spirit and emphasised the determined steps of the country’s Administration to strengthen the social protection of the shahid families and the gazies.

Rector of Baku State University Elchin Babayev and Haji Shahin of the Spiritual Council of the Caucasus Muslim Department talked about the victory of the Azerbaijani Army, too.

It was said that the shahid families were constantly embraced with the care and attention of the Administration of the country. The speakers thanked President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for that. They underlined that the memory of the shahids would live in the Azerbaijani hearts forever and that their self-sacrifice was a fine example for the coming generations to reckon with.

The ceremony was concluded with an artistic composition performed by shahid children.
