A Meeting of Azerbaijani, Belgian Parliamentary Friendship Groups
MP Kamal Jafarov who also helms our working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Belgium had a virtual meeting with Tim Vandenput heading the group of friendship with Azerbaijan in the Federal Parliament of Belgium on 15 December.
MP Jafarov stressed Azerbaijan’s being interested in co-operating with the European countries with Belgium included and told the Belgian colleague of the reforms current in every area in our country, the streamlining of the underlying legal platform and the workings of the Milli Majlis. MP Jafarov also told MP Vandenput of the adoption of the new laws meeting the call of the modern times and the amending of those already in effect. Gender equilibrium is maintained in the state administration just as it is in every other field; women hold senior positions at the legislature of Azerbaijan, MP Jafarov mentioned before touching on the two parliaments’ friendship groups’ input in the broadening of the bilateral co-operation.
President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan is in Brussels where he has had a number of high-status meetings, MP Jafarov continued. The NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg has thanked Ilham Aliyev for Azerbaijan’s substantial contribution to the mission in Afghanistan. The EU Council President Charles Michel issued a statement following a trilateral with Ilham Aliyev and the Armenian PM Nikol Pashinyan to herald considerable achievements secured there. Our lawmaker added that Mr Michel’s statement had touched especially on installing a railway line through the Zangazur Corridor.
Tim Vandenput, too, assured of Belgium’s interest in co-operating with Azerbaijan. He proceeded to underline the special roles of the parliaments in the furtherance of the bilateral co-operation and said that the Belgian MPs appreciated Azerbaijan’s input in the European energy security.
The Azerbaijan-Belgium group members Nigyar Arpadarai and Mazahir Efendiyev who also were present at the online meeting shared their ideas about promotion of the bilateral ties, the reforms afoot in our country and Azerbaijan’s endeavours to keep peace and prosperity in the region.
Other matters of shared interest were discussed as well.
Senator Leo Pieterse of the Belgium-Azerbaijan Group and the Belgian ambassador to Azerbaijan Michael Peetermans were taking part in the meeting, too.
