Leader of UK-Azerbaijan Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group Bob Blackman Congratulates Azerbaijani Colleague on Victory Day
Member of the UK House of Commons and leader of the Working Group for the Azerbaijan-UK Inter-parliamentary Relations Bob Blackman sent a letter of congratulations on the Victory Day to the leader of the Azerbaijan-UK inter-parliamentary connexions working group Javanshir Feyziyev.
‘Like many in the United Kingdom, I was deeply saddened last year when the armed forces of Armenia blatantly violated the ceasefire regime and, using large-calibre weapons, mortar launchers and artillery, have launched an intensive attack on the positions of the armed forces of Azerbaijan,’ goes the letter from MP Blackman.
MP Blackman sends his sincere sympathy on this anniversary with the people who tragically died or were injured during the conflict.
‘The bombardments that were carried out of densely populated civilian areas and installations situated along the front line by Armenia’s armed forces were clearly deliberate and unnecessary. It was clear for all to see that Armenia’s deliberate targeting of residential areas and civilians is a gross violation of the international humanitarian law, including the Geneva Convention of 1949. Targeting the civilian population is a tactic incorporated in the combat training of Armenia’s armed forces and the Khojali genocide perpetrated in February 1992 has been a vivid testimony to that.’
‘When Azerbaijan achieved victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, it restored its territorial integrity and created a new geopolitical reality in the South Caucasus. The United Kingdom is happy to witness the new era of Karabakh which it hopes will be one of restoration and construction,’ MP Blackman writes.
