The chairman of the Milli Majlis Health Committee Ahliman Amiraslanov received the ambassador of Denmark to Turkey and Azerbaijan Danny Annan and a representative of the pharmaceutical company Novo Nordisk Emil Larsen on 8 December.

After the greetings had been exchanged, Ahliman Amiraslanov talked about the diverse co-operation between Azerbaijan and Denmark and the prominent potential for expansion of the mutual relations. He also commended the Danish diplomat on his trip to the town of Agdam.

Mr Amiraslanov told the guests about the work done by the Health Committee, a relatively new one compared with the other parliamentary committees though it has been in action as an independent panel for close to ten years now. More than twenty laws have been passed and hundreds amended through the action of the committee in that time. The committee draws up draft laws on health care, sanitary and epidemiological condition of public health, medications, pharmaceutics and operation of chemists’ shops, prevention of diseases hazardous to the society, medical insurance and medical practice. Also, the committee conducts hearings about the health matters of importance to the country.

The Danish ambassador to our country Danny Annan thanked Mr Amiraslanov for the kind welcome and spoke positively of the opportunities to develop and strengthen the relations between Denmark and Azerbaijan. There are many Danish companies working in Azerbaijan; as regards the bilateral inter-parliamentary relations, Mr Annan added, he was going to do everything within his power to ensure they progress. Mr Annan also brought up his voyage to Agdam during which he had been acquainted with the work in process in the de-occupied provinces of the country and, especially, the efforts made to build a smart and sustainable town. According to the Danish diplomat, Denmark intends to strike up a closer working relationship with Azerbaijan.

Emil Larsen, in turn, said that Novo Nordisk had been active in Azerbaijan since the 90s last century and was supporting millions of people either with diabetes mellitus or risking to contract it the world over, and was making its input in improving the quality of their lives. Speaking of which subject, Azerbaijan could serve as a model to the world as far as countering this disease and providing the patients with access to the medications they require are concerned, according to the Novo Nordisk man.

The deputy chair of the parliamentary Committee for International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations and leader of the Azerbaijan-Denmark inter-parliamentary connexions working group Sevinj Fataliyeva voiced her ideas about the roles of the parliaments in the furtherance of the bilateral relations as well as about the prospects for broader inter-parliamentary connexions.

The Health Committee’s Kamaladdin Gafarov and Ilham Mammadov commented on the two-way health care co-operation and discussed other matters of shared interest with the guests.

A member of the Health Committee Malahat Ibrahimghizi, the Honorary Consul of the Kingdom of Denmark in our country Arnoud Govaert and other officials were taking part in the meeting as well.
