Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis and chairman of its Public Associations and Religious Entities Committee Fazail Ibrahimli met with the visiting delegation led by Malaysia’s deputy foreign minister Kamarudin bin Jaffar on 21 January.

The vice-speaker passed on to the guests the greetings from the Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova before talking about the close relationship between Azerbaijan and Malaysia and referring to the high standards set by our political and diplomatic ties. As regards the inter-parliamentary co-operation, Mr Ibrahimli mentioned the work done by the two-way friendship groups active in the legislative assemblies of both countries in this respect.

Mr Ibrahimli also touched on Malaysia having supported our just cause at the time of the 44 days’ Patriotic War and stressed the high appreciation of that support by Azerbaijan. The deputy speaker proceeded to tell the guests of the Armenian vandalism against our provinces and tangible cultural heritage and, especially, the inhuman treatment of the churches by Armenia during the years of occupation.

He also expressed his gratitude to Malaysia for the support to our country in the international organisations in general and under the roof of the Organisation of Islamic Co-operation in particular.

Mr bin Jaffar said, in turn, that that was his third visit to Azerbaijan and that there were going to be important meetings during it. Such visits are crucial for the continued solidification of the bilateral relations, in the opinion of Mr bin Jaffar. Malaysia, a country backing the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan, advocates resolving jointly a number of issues for the ultimate good of both nations, he added.

The importance of a continued growth of the inter-parliamentary connexions was underlined as the conversation met on; it was said confidently that our country would achieve a yet more prosperous future.

The leader of the Azerbaijan-Malaysia inter-parliamentary connexions working group Vugar Bayramov, the group members Aydin Huseynov, Igbal Mammadov and Fazil Mustafa, Malaysian diplomatists and other officials were taking part in the meeting, too.
