The chair of the Milli Majlis Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs Committee Hijran Huseynova began the first committee meeting of the current-year spring session held on 21 January by wishing the MPs success during the session.

The year we have seen off had been marked by the achievements secured thanks to the political wisdom, resolve and far-sightedness of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces Ilham Aliyeva, according to Hijran Huseynova. The people who had longed for their paternal homes for as long as thirty years will be able to return to their native parts soon enough, Mrs Huseynova said with confidence.

As regards the agenda of the committee meeting, it contained the 2021 autumn session performance report, the 2022 spring session work plan and current issues, according to Hijran Huseynova.

The adoption of the agenda of the meeting was followed by the presentation of the work that the committee had done during the past session; there had been ten meetings and sixteen issues had been considered at them. Also, the committee had held a conference ‘The Role of the Civil Society in Gender Equality and Promotion of Women’s Rights’ and a hearing ‘The Struggle against Drug Addiction as the Family Health Guarantee’. The committee chair and members had been actively involved in the activities of the working groups they are in; there had been online meetings with international institutions’ representatives and discussions of the matters of public concern and of other topics.

The committee had received 153 appeals from citizens; all the inbound correspondence had been analysed and appropriate steps had been taken then.

As she tabled the work plan for the spring session of 2022, Hijran Huseynova mentioned the forthcoming consideration and expert assessments of incoming documents, appeals, Bills and amendments to the laws on the family rights and the rights of women and children. There would be hearings, too, the committee chair added.

Deputy Chair Jala Aliyeva and the committee members Tamam Jafarova, Sadagat Valiyeva, Ramin Mammadov, Konul Nurullayeva, Sevil Mikayilova and Nigyar Arpadarai shared their considerations about the report and the work plan alike. It was mentioned that the MPs in the committee had been in close contact with their constituents subject to the quarantine regulations; they had also taken an active part in the public political processes of the period and had made press appearances on many diverse issues.

Next, the committee members endorsed the performance report on the autumn session of 2021 and adopted the work plan for the spring session of 2022.

The current issues were discussed then.
