Members of the Milli Majlis Working Group for the Azerbaijan-Brazil inter-parliamentary friendship had a meeting on 2 November with Senator Antonio Anastasia who is helming the Brazil-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary co-operation and friendship group in the National Congress of the Brazilian Senate.

The leader of the Azerbaijani group Mushfig Mammadli welcomed the guest, told him of the close co-operative ties that the Azerbaijani legislature of the sixth convention maintains with the legislative assemblies of many countries and underscored the great importance of the ties with the Brazilian parliament for the Milli Majlis. The active presence of the Brazil-Azerbaijan friendship groups in both the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of the Brazilian Congress, on the other hand, spells the big importance that is attached to our country, in the opinion of Mr Mammadli.

In turn, Senator Antonio Anastasia spoke of the intense significance that Brazil attaches to both diplomatic ties and inter-parliamentary co-operation with Azerbaijan. As he was talking about the inter-parliamentary interaction, Senator Anastasia underlined the input made by the friendship group and mentioned the need in greater efforts to further the relations between our countries.

Vugar Bayramov of the aforementioned Milli Majlis group, the Azerbaijani ambassador in Brasilia Elkhan Polukhov and the Brazilian ambassador in Baku Manuel Montenegro shared their ideas about co-operation, experience exchange and investment opportunities.

The two sides were also talking about the new co-operation horizons that Azerbaijan’s having freed its lands from the 30-year occupation by Armenia had brought to our region. The Brazilian colleagues were told of the immense infrastructure and restoration projects afoot in the de-occupied provinces of the country. It was said, besides, that re-opening of communications in the region was vital for Armenia that is living through an economic recession.

Also, they exchanged opinions about deepening the bilateral co-operation, including the inter-parliamentary interaction development potential, and other matters of shared interest.
