The first meeting of the Milli Majlis Youth and Sports Committee in the current parliamentary session was held virtually on 24 January.

Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/committee chairman Adil Aliyev began by congratulating the colleagues on the beginning of the spring session of 2022 and wishing them success in their work. Then, he announced that the agenda of the meeting contained of the 2021 autumn session performance report and the 2022 spring session work plan.

Just as the year 2020 was concluded under the sign of the historic victory won with President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev at the head, 2021 had been characterised by the tremendous highlights in the history of the state and the nation alike including the great building and re-building work done in Garabagh, according to Mr Aliyev.

As he spoke of the work done during the autumn session of last year, the Vice Speaker mentioned the fruitful efforts of the committee members and their having fulfilled with merit their tasks connected to the reforms implemented in the country. He also referenced the steps taken to streamline the legislative frameworks.

The committee held nine meetings and received 751 written and more than 1,400 written, oral and social-network queries and applications last session. All the feedback and correspondence were processed; most of the problems raised in the applications were solved eventually.

Mr Aliyev recalled his having taken part in the Patriotic War shahid wakes and meetings with shahid families, visits to shahids’ lanes and conversations with the families and the gazies in several provinces of the country.

As many as 53 meetings were held at the Milli Majlis with more than 450 Patriotic War gazies and medics as well as with young people in keeping with the quarantine regulations. The meetings’ participants were given various awards and certificates of merit in recognition of their equally various achievements. Besides, there were live and remote meetings of the 2nd Narimanov Constituency No 20 for the discussion of the constituents’ concerns. The committee members treated shahid families and gazies with utmost care; there were conversations with them; those people were provided with aid. Furthermore, the MPs who are members of the committee were actively involved in a series of charitable events and made mass media appearances and presentations.

The committee chairman and members alike joined a number of events, both locally and internationally, amongst them having been sessions of the working groups they are members of and negotiations with representatives of international institutions. The matters concerning the national interests had been discussed, Mr Aliyev pointed out.

Next, the work plan for the spring session of 2022 was presented for consideration of the committee. It following from the plan that there will be debates over the youth-related articles of the draft laws ‘On Reproductive Health Protection’ and ‘On Tertiary Education’ alongside the intended consideration of the other Bills scheduled to arrive at the committee. A lot of space is dedicated, then, to youth enlightenment, periodical encounters with shahid family members and war veterans, arranging various happenings dedicated to the Khojali Genocide and public as well as social highlights of the country – all in conformity with the presidential decree ‘On Announcing 2022 the Year of Shusha’ dated 5 January 2022.

The deputy chairman of the committee Shahin Ismayilov and the MPs Ramil Hasan, Sevinj Huseynova and Mushfig Jafarov talked about the important steps to implement the national youth policy and of the favourable conditions that the youth of the country have to be healthy, well-educated and patriotic and, ultimately, to become citizens instilled with the national spirit.

Ultimately, the committee approved both the last-session performance report and the to-do list for the current session.

The other members of the committee Mahir Abbaszade, Ulvi Guliyev, Etibar Aliyev, Javid Osmanov, Konul Nurullayeva, Jala Ahmadova, Vugar Isgandarov, Shahin Seyidzade and Jabi Guliyev took part in the link-up meeting as well.
