Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Adil Aliyev met the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the United Mexican States to our country Rodrigo Labardini on 24 February.

Having welcomed the ambassador, Mr Aliyev expressed a pleasure with the high level of the Azerbaijani-Mexican relations, touched upon the history and cultures of the two countries and pointed out that the progress of the two-way connexions was in the interests of our nations. The interaction amongst the legislative assemblies of Azerbaijan and Mexico, too, is contributing to the advancement of the relationship and co-operation in the economic, educational, academic and cultural areas, according to Mr Aliyev.

The vice speaker went further to mention the current marking of the thirtieth anniversary of the Khojali Genocide, saying then that Azerbaijan had freed its lands after thirty years of occupation by Armenia consequent to the 44-day Patriotic War of 2020 and yet, those responsible for the genocide committed in Khojali had not had their due punishment yet.

Mr Aliyev also mentioned the just stance of the Congreso de la Unión: in response to the call made by the ‘Justice for Khojali’ campaign led by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation’s Vice President Leyla Aliyeva, the Mexican federal legislature recognised the genocide in Khojali as such in 2012. For that, Mr Aliyev once again expressed his gratitude to Mr Labardini. Mr Aliyev said confidently that the bilateral relations would continue progressing henceforth.

The UMS ambassador Rodrigo Labardini thanked Vice Speaker Adil Aliyev for the sincere reception. The relations between the two countries are advancing and the volumes of trade are going up, he remarked with pleasure. The deepening of our connexions is good for our nations and states; both sides are interested in this progress. Mr Labardini then noted with conviction that our economic, cultural and sporting relations would be taken further and would lead us to new achievements. According to the Mexican ambassador, he has witnessed the rapid growth of our country in the time that he has spent in Azerbaijan. Mr Labardini wished our country further successes.
