An online conference dedicated to the 30th anniversary of the Khojali Genocide and co-arranged by the embassy of the Azerbaijan Republic in Hungary and the Budapest Centre for the Prevention of Mass Violence took part on 25 February.

MP Shahin Seyidzade who is a member of the Azerbaijan-Hungary inter-parliamentary connexions working group, Azerbaijan’s ambassador to Hungary Tahir Taghizade, the above-said Centre’s chairman György Tatár and members of the public from both countries joined the conference.

They paid respects to the memory of the victims of the Khojali Tragedy and were told of the genocide and war crime committed in that Azerbaijani town. The international post-conflict reconciliation experience was talked about; it was stressed that it was important for lasting peace in the region that Armenia would admit the responsibility for the Khojali Genocide.

MP Seyidzade told of the history and legal aspects of the Khojali Tragedy as well as our country’s historic victory in the 44 days’ Patriotic War and the restored internationally-recognised borders and territorial wholeness of Azerbaijan.

Then, the tragedy’s survivor Hasan Alakbarov and the Lithuanian journalist Ričardas Lapaitis who witnessed the Khojali Events and played a huge role in telling the world the truth about them told the conference participants about those horrendous developments.

A short film ‘I Grieve’ shot by Vaghif Mustafayev about the genocide in Khojali was demonstrated as part of the conference, too.
