An event marking the International Women’s Day and organised by the Milli Majlis Youth and Sports Committee helmed by Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis Adil Aliyev took place on 8 March. It was attended by the mothers, sisters, wives and other relatives of the Patriotic War shahids as well as Adil Aliyev himself, the MPs Jala Ahmadova and Javid Osmanov and the theologian Haji Shahin Hasanli.

First, the assembled honoured the shahids’ memory with a minute of silence, and the national anthem of the Azerbaijan Republic was sounded.

Vice Speaker Adil Aliyev in his introductory speech congratulated the shahid female relatives on the occasion and asked the Almighty to grant those long lives and good health. The hero mothers raised by their mothers had fought in the ranks of our glorious Army under President, the victorious Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev and had won us the historical Victory – the one that meant the restoration of the territorial wholeness of our country: the lands that are ours truly and had been occupied by the enemy for thirty years had been freed within 44 days. The members of the families of the heroes who had not hesitated to lay down their lives for the wholeness of their country as well as the gazies are embraced with the most generous care and attention of President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva now, Adil Aliyev added.

MP Jala Ahmadova of the Youth and Sports Committee and the theologian Haji Shahin Hasanli spoke next. They talked about the bravery of the heroes who had risen up to the Shahidism. They also congratulated the shahids’ female relatives on their Day.

The mothers, wives, sisters and other female members of the shahid families, in turn, thanked President Ilham Aliyev and First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva for their caring attitude.

The event was capped with verse readings and performances by shahid children and people of the arts.
