Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the UK Prime Ministerial Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson on 9 March. Mrs Gafarova welcomed the guest cordially before recalling with pleasure their previous encounters and the several times that Baroness Nicholson had visited our country. Her current arrival, too, would promote a continued deepening of the bilateral relations, Sahiba Gafarova remarked confidently.

The Azerbaijani-British relations are turning thirty years in 2022; our relations can be described as a friendship and a strategic partnership, the leader of the Azerbaijani parliament continued.

Mrs Gafarova also touched on the positive role of the parliaments of the two countries in the forward movement of the Azerbaijani-British connexions, underlining the good relations between the MPs of both sides that manifest themselves in bilateral and multilateral interaction alike. Besides, there are the friendship groups in both legislatures and they are successful in their work.

The British Prime Ministerial Trade Envoy for Azerbaijan Baroness Emma Nicholson lauded the relations between our countries as well before bringing up the progress achieved over the thirty years past. She expressed satisfaction with the inter-parliamentary connexions and mentioned the co-operation between our MPs under the roof of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe.

The new reality established in our region consequent to Azerbaijan’s having freed its lands in the 44 days’ Patriotic War and the extensive restoration and rebuilding work under way in those provinces were also described as the conversation continued. Azerbaijan is building a spacious infrastructure of the liberated lands, building new and modern roads and organising distribution of electricity all by itself currently. Steps are being taken to sweep those territories of mines at the same time. All those labours are extremely important for the eventual safe return of our former internally displaced people to their native parts, Sahiba Gafarova emphasised.

There was also an exchange of opinions about broadening the bi-partite economic, trading, educational, cultural and otherwise co-operation as the meeting drew on.
