An Online Meeting of Chairs of TurkPA States’ Parliamentary Committees of Foreign Connexions

The first ever meeting of the chairs of the foreign connexions parliamentary committees of the TurkPA states was held remotely on 9 March.

Dedicated to the topic of parliaments’ role in international political co-operation, the meeting was moderated by Chairman of the External Relations Committee of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey (GNAT) Akif Çağatay Kılıç and began with the introductory speeches of Chairman of the TurkPA Legal Affairs and International Relations Committee Erol Kaya (Turkey) and the TurkPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er.

Those were followed by the thematic presentations by the attending committee leaders, with the ground first given to the leader of the International and Inter-Parliamentary Relations Committee of the Milli Majlis of the Azerbaijan Republic Samad Seyidov.

Mr Seyidov covered the roles of the parliaments in the international political co-operation amongst the TurkPA states, underlined the necessity of joint activities for peace, be it globally or regionally, highlit the importance of reliance on the law and legal equality in international relations and commented on the contribution of the TurkPA states’ political co-operation to strengthening peace world-wide. Azerbaijan’s initiatives regarding promotion of global and regional co-operation were referenced as well.

Next spoke Chair of the International Relations, Defence and Security Committee of the Mazhilis of the Kazakh Parliament Aygul Kuspan, Chairman of the International Relations, Defence, Security and Migration Issues Committee of Kyrgyzstan’s Joğorqu Keñeş Chinghiz Aydarbekov, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of Hungary’s Országgyűlés Zsolt Németh and Chairman of the International Relations and Inter-Parliamentary Connexions Committee of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan Dilorom Fayziyeva. The committee heads talked about the security hazards faced by the TurkPA states, voiced their assessments of threats to peace and shared ideas about reinforcing international peace and inter-state dialogue as well as promoting co-operation.

Erol Kaya and Akif Çağatay Kılıç said with conviction whilst summing the meeting up that the suggestions and ideas voiced at it were going to serve to expand parliamentary co-operation for the sake of peaceful resolution of conflicts.
