Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova who is in the Republic of Uzbekistan on an official visit currently has met with Chair of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of that country Tanzila Narbayeva on 1 April.

Mrs Narbayeva greeted the Azerbaijani delegation cordially and said that the first arrival of Mrs Gafarova in Uzbekistan as a speaker of the Milli Majlis was bound to make an outstanding contribution to the advance of the relations between the two states and their legislative assemblies. Mrs Narbayeva then spoke of the dynamic progress of the ties between our friendly countries as well as about the successful bilateral co-operation in a good many areas.

Tanzila Narbayeva underlined the role that the heads of the two states had played and were playing in the boisterous development of the relationship. The remarkable achievements made by Azerbaijan under the guidance of President Ilham Aliyev were followed intently in the friendly state of Uzbekistan, Mrs Narbayeva added. The activities of the First Vice President Mehriban Aliyeva of the Azerbaijan Republic and of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation governed by her deserved the closest attention, too – the projects undertaken by the Foundation are met with universal praise, Mrs Narbayeva continued.

She went on to highlight the special role of the parliaments in the growth of the Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations and recalled with pleasure her previous conversations with the leader of the Milli Majlis. The close contacts maintained between the two parliaments made it possible to intensify the relationship further, in the opinion of Tanzila Narbayeva.

As she said her thanks for the generous hospitality and the kind words said about our country, the Chair of the Milli Majlis proceeded to describe Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan as amicable state before referring to the proximity of their religious and moral basics and the language community, all of which are tremendous factors in the on-going deepening of our relationship that is rooted in the past ages. The two-way connexions have graduated to a new level qualitatively after both Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan had gained their independence; the mutual visits and conversations of the heads of the states have played and are playing a material role in this advance. According to Mrs Gafarova, those visits and conversations are central to promoting dynamic, efficient and mutually beneficial relations. Besides, the high-level political dialogue bears well on the other areas, thus, fostering progressing interaction in them, too.

Speaker Sahiba Gafarova touched on the upwardly dynamics shown by the economic co-operation over the past years. The trade between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan has demonstrated the positive dynamics despite the global economic state of affairs caused by the pandemic. As regards promotion of interaction in investments, there, too, both sides have attained certain successes.

The work that the two parliaments are doing has a special place in the evolution of the two-way connexions, in the opinion of Mrs Gafarova who added that the expansion of the bi-partite contacts bolstered the inter-parliamentary relations most appreciably. Mrs Gafarova mentioned the friendship groups in action in both legislatures as well as she did the successful collaboration and mutual support amongst our parliamentarians in various international organisations.

Talking about Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day-long Patriotic War and the new reality established in our region then, Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that, due to that victory, our country had made its national territory intact again and had put an end to the occupation. The conflict had been resolved – and resolved by Azerbaijan itself. The friendly Uzbekistan had always called for a settlement of the now bygone conflict on the basis of the international law’s standards and along the principles of Azerbaijan’s sovereignty, territorial wholeness and inviolable borders, Mrs Gafarova recalled and said that the people of Azerbaijan had highly appreciated such an approach to the matter.

Azerbaijan wants constant peace and stability to dawn on the region; Azerbaijan is currently busy implementing the hefty restoration and rebuilding work in its de-occupied territories. Sahiba Gafarova thanked Uzbekistan for its help with construction of a school in the Fuzuli Province. That was a friendly stance, she added.

It should be mentioned that the leader of the working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Uzbekistan Eldar Ibrahimov and the WG members Javanshir Pashazade, Agalar Valiyev, Anar Isgandarov and Razi Nurullayev were present at the meeting as well.
