Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova has met, as part of her current official visit to the Republic of Uzbekistan, with Chairman of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the country Nurdinjon Ismoilov on 1 April.

Expanding the Uzbek-Azerbaijani inter-parliamentary co-operation, promoting the trading, economic and investment relations and arranging an extensive linkage in other fields were all discussed at the meeting.

Nurdinjon Ismoilov welcomed the Azerbaijani delegation cordially, talked about the growth of the relationship, the future efforts to deepen the inter-parliamentary co-operation further and the dynamic rise of the political, economic, cultural and humanitarian interaction in which, he noted, there was a part played by the connexions between our legislatures. Mr Ismoilov made a favourable mention of the work done by the friendship groups of both parliaments; the MPs’ two-way visits are very important when it comes to discussing such matters that occupy the minds on both sides, in his opinion.

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova expressed her gratitude for the lavish hospitality before she spoke about the continuous progress of the bonds between our friendly states – the states which have covered the similar paths of independence. She underscored the singular services of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev in the preservation and promotion of the national independence of Azerbaijan. Also, Mrs Gafarova put Mr Ismoilov thoroughly in the picture of the extensive reforms in every area and the outstanding socio-economic achievements, all secured in Azerbaijan under the leadership of President Ilham Aliyev.

The Azerbaijani-Uzbek relations are setting high standards and the documents signed to date form a solid framework for our collaboration. The visits that the presidents of the two countries exchange and the conversations they have played a major part in achieving the present-day summit of the bilateral interaction, according to Sahiba Gafarova.

Further, the Chair of the Milli Majlis addressed the significance of a continual dialogue for strengthening the inter-parliamentary ties and said she hoped that those ties would continue evolving. She also informed the Uzbek colleague of the legislative endeavours of the parliament of Azerbaijan.

Besides, Sahiba Gafarova talked about Armenia’s having held the lands of Azerbaijan under occupation for thirty years, during which period Armenia had plundered, sacked and razed all the captured towns and villages, cultural and historical heritage and mosques of ours. Our lands were set free again in the 44-day Patriotic War waged under the command of President Ilham Aliyev of Azerbaijan. Right now, restoration and building are afoot in the territories delivered from the invaders’ grip. Having said that, Mrs Gafarova added with conviction that our rescued towns and villages would be restored and would regain their former beauty in the end.

The meeting that saw other matters of shared interest brought up for discussion, too, was also attended by the head of the working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Uzbekistan Eldar Ibrahimov, the members of the Milli Majlis Javanshir Pashazade, Agalar Valiyev, Anar Isgandarov and Razi Nurullayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev and other officials.
