Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the inbound President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic on 20 April.

Sahiba Gafarova told Sadyr Japarov that she was pleased to greet him at the Milli Majlis. Our countries, she continued, are connected with the many-centuries-long links of friendship and fraternity; our nations are united by their common roots and values as well as the similar historical paths they have covered, according to Mrs Gafarova.

The relations between our countries transitioned to a new growth stage after the restoration of their national independence. Doubtless, the reciprocal visits of the heads of our states and the documents signed during those visits had formed a special factor that stands behind the attainment of the present-day level of interaction. Having said that, Madame Speaker remarked confidently that the Declaration of Strategic Partnership between the Azerbaijan Republic and the Kyrgyz Republic and the Memorandum about Establishment of the Inter-State Council of the Azerbaijan Republic and the Kyrgyz Republic, signed by the leaders of the two countries earlier today, as well as the other documents were bound to elevate the bipartite relationship to new heights.

The Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz co-operation relies on the mutually beneficial partnership and the bonds of friendship, and is advancing confidently in the political, trading and economic, humanitarian, cultural and other fields, according to Sahiba Gafarova.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis touched on the topic of the bilateral inter-parliamentary connexions, emphasising the parliaments’ special role in the progress of the Azerbaijani-Kyrgyz relations and the close parliamentary co-operation, bilateral as well as multilateral. Both parliaments have the friendship groups in action; our delegations support each other upon the international platforms.

Next, Sahiba Gafarova spoke of Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44 days’ Patriotic War of 2020 that had culminated in the liberation of the 20 per cent of our territory after its occupation by Armenia having lasted for almost thirty years, and the restoration of the territorial integrity of our country. During the occupation period, Armenia had plundered the entire treasury of our tangible heritage in those lands. Our towns, villages and mosques had been obliterated. Right now, Azerbaijan is working on restoring and rebuilding the lands delivered from the occupation; relevant large-scale projects are in progress. We hope, Mrs Gafarova said, that members of the Kyrgyz Parliament would, when visiting our country, get to know our liberated territories and see everything there with their own eyes.

Chair Gafarova told President Japarov of her conviction that his arrival in Azerbaijan was certain to create a new impulse and further stimuli for the on-going evolution of our relations in every area – including between our legislatures.

President Sadyr Japarov of the Kyrgyz Republic witnessed his gratitude for the cordial reception before sharing the impressions from his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev. He talked about the present-day advancement of the friendly and brotherly bonds between our nations – the bonds that have the rich history, he pointed out. Both states have organised and are maintaining close co-operation in the international entities including the TurkPA and the CIS IPA, to mention but two.

Sadyr Japarov mentioned contentedly the fact that the Kyrgyz-Azerbaijani interaction has already taken on the nature of strategic partnership. The bilateral strategic partnership declaration signed between our republics earlier today as well as the other fundamental documents will cause the bilateral connexions to grow deeper eventually, in the opinion of Mr Japarov.

The economic, trading, cultural and humanitarian ties and interaction are moving forward; it is important to increase the bilateral trade volumes, too, President Japarov continued.

He praised the inter-parliamentary interaction between Kyrgyzstan and Azerbaijan, too, as the conversation drew on.

Other matters of shared interest were talked about at the meeting as well.
