A Meeting with Romanian Delegation at Milli Majlis

The head of the Azerbaijan-Romania inter-parliamentary connexions working group of the Milli Majlis Azay Guliyev and the WG members, the parliamentary committee chair Ganira Pashayeva and the MPs Mushfig Jafarov and Elman Mammadov – had a meeting on 27 April with the members of the Romanian legislature’s parliamentary friendship group on Azerbaijan who had arrived in our country.

As he welcomed the guests, Azay Guliyev told them of the great importance that the Milli Majlis attached to furthering the relations with the Romanian parliament, underlined the significance of interaction between the two legislatures’ friendship groups for information and experience exchange and mentioned our MPs’ efficient interaction in international parliamentary organisations.

Our countries have a strategic partnership document signed; the continued broadening of our political, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties serves the common goals.

Azay Guliyev then spoke about the victory of the Azerbaijani army in the Patriotic War of 2020, telling the Romanian guests that the signing of the trilateral statement marked the end to that conflict. Our lands delivered from the Armenian occupation are being restored and repaired intensively right now, it was said.

The Romanian MP and leader of the Romania-Azerbaijan friendship group Cristian‑Daniel Ivănuţă thanked for the heartfelt welcome, shared his impressions from our country and emphasised our parliaments’ roles in the advancement of the bilateral relations. There are friendship groups in action in both legislative assemblies, Mr Ivănuţă mentioned before saying how much their mutually beneficial co-operation mattered.

Mr Ivănuţă told the Azerbaijani colleagues of his close ties with our embassy in Bucharest, maintained so he would get to know Azerbaijan better. He said he had also attended the event that the Azerbaijani embassy had held in connexion with the Khojali Genocide, saying that he grieved the tragedy of Khojali about which he had informed the parliament of Romania duly.

The Romanian-Azerbaijani interaction has graduated to the stage of strategic partnership the impact of which can be increased further by strengthening the inter-parliamentary connexions more, according to the Romanian parliamentarian.

The guest proceeded to talk about the extensive opportunities at hand to develop the economic, cultural and humanitarian co-operation between our countries. He mentioned with satisfaction the friendship ties between our nations and brought up the significance that his country attributed to moving its interaction with Azerbaijan forth.

The Azerbaijani parliamentarian Elman Mammadov told the guests of the Khojali Genocide of the Azerbaijani population committed by the Armenian armed forces and about the efforts made to let the broad public learn of that tragedy. The states around the world should take a fair stance with regards to the matter, MP Mammadov stressed.

Ganira Pashayeva was talking about promotion of the cultural and tourism relations.

Other matters of interest to each side were broached during the meeting as well.
