Parliamentary Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs Organised an Online Meeting

The Milli Majlis Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs held an online meeting – the first one in the spring session of this year – on 25 January.

Committee Chair Hijran Huseynova wished the colleagues success during the session, mentioned the liberation of the lands of our country after almost 30 years of enemy occupation and said that the year 2020, though a hard one, too, would always be remembered with pride as the Victory Year. The rigid political will and political skills of President and Commander-in-Chief Ilham Aliyev had earned the country that Victory, on which Mrs Huseynova congratulated the meeting participants before expressing her kindest wishes for the Azerbaijani Army. Also, she asked the Almighty to rest in peace the souls of those who had sacrificed their lives for the defence of the Motherland and wished the wounded war veterans soon recovery.

Mrs Huseynova proceeded to say that the Committee members had invariably treated with care every woman and every child affected by the Armenian occupiers’ acts of terror during the Patriotic War. The Committee for Family, Women’s and Children’s Affairs had sent appeals about those bloody terrorist attacks to several influential international organisations.

Next, Mrs Huseynova read out the 2020 autumn session performance report of the Committee. She referred to the crucial modifications serving the cause of perfecting the legislation that had been made in the laws ‘On the Child’s Rights’, ‘On the Social Protection of Orphans and Children Deprived of Parental Care’ and ‘On the Protection of Children from Harmful Information’ as well as in the Labour and Family Codes. All those amendments were discussed and enacted at the plenary sittings of the Milli Majlis, Mrs Huseynova added.

Also last session, the Committee held an online hearing themed ‘The Social-Psychological Security for Families and the Related Problems’ that involved officials of the concerned authorities and representatives of non-governmental organisations. 

Going further, Mrs Huseynova mentioned the 280 documents (including 143 applications, letters and complaints) received from the people in the reported period. The incoming correspondence was mainly about social protection matters, alimony requests, problems with finding employment, seeking financial aid for medical treatment and amnestying convicts. A portion of it was forwarded to the concerned authorities but the Committee members addressed and resolved some applications by themselves.

The performance report was approved in then, after which the Committee started to discuss the 2021 spring session work plan.

Mrs Huseynova informed the meeting participants of all the planned matters in detail. She mentioned, amongst others, that there would be a large videoconference themed ‘The Social Situation of Young Families’ ahead of the Youth Day that is the 2nd of February in Azerbaijan.

The Committee members Jala Aliyeva, Rauf Aliyev, Rashad Mahmudov, Konul Nurullayeva, Sadagat Valiyeva, Ramin Mammadov and Parvin Karimzade commented on both items on the agenda and voiced their own relevant proposals.

The work plan was approved then.

The other Committee members – Sevil Mikayilova and Tamam Jafarova – attend the meeting as well.
