Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/Head of the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee Adil Aliyev met with the visiting delegation led by the Romanian MP and leader of the Romania-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary working group Cristian-Daniel Ivănuţă on 27 April.

The Vice Speaker greeted the guests on behalf of Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and told them that the visits like their current one mattered tremendously in terms of making the Azerbaijani-Romanian relations stronger. Azerbaijan and Romania are two friendly states; their relations are constantly on the rise, Mr Aliyev remarked with pleasure.

The bilateral ties have evolved to strategic partnership thanks to the political will of the two states’ leaders; such a partnership rests on the massively important documents signed with regards to it. The most commendable efforts of both legislatures and their working groups serve the cause of strengthening the bi-partite connexions, too, Mr Aliyev continued; he mentioned the fundamental role of the groups in the on-going experience exchange.

Armenia had held the historically Azerbaijani lands in captivity and had flouted the conflict-related resolutions of the UN Security Council for close to thirty years. More than a million Azerbaijani citizens had been displaced out of their homelands due to Armenia’s having stuck to its occupation course. And, at the long last, the Azerbaijani counter-offensive that had begun on 27 September 2020 lead to the Armenian occupiers being driven from the territories they had captured. The trilateral statement signed by the Azerbaijani and RF presidents and the Armenian PM on 10 November that same year dropped the curtain on the conflict and peace had returned to the region after so many years, Adil Aliyev continued. Large-scale restoration and rebuilding are under way in the liberated territories right now, he added.

The Romanian parliamentarian and head of the Romania-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary working group Cristian-Daniel Ivănuţă said his thanks for the kind welcome and said then that it was in the joint interest to promote the bi-partite relations further. Romania regards Azerbaijan as not only a strategic but also a serious trade partner, what with the material impact that our trade turnovers have on the Romanian-Azerbaijani economic ties. Azerbaijan sports an advantageous geographical position; the operation of the merchant port in the Alyat settlement is very important, too, Mr Ivănuţă continued.

Mr Ivănuţă said he was certain that the two-way relations would continue progressing bilaterally as well as multilaterally. Azerbaijan holds a formidable position not only in her own region but in the world, the Romanian MP added with satisfaction.

Other matters of shared interest and concern were talked over as well as the conversation drew on.
