Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting on 6 May with President of the General Court of Audit of Saudi Arabia Dr Hussam bin Abdulmohsen Al-Angari who is visiting in Azerbaijan currently.

Mrs Gafarova told the guest that she was glad to welcome him at the Milli Majlis and that Azerbaijan found it especially important to promote its connexions and to broaden its co-operation with Saudi Arabia in diverse areas. Our nations are connected with religious and cultural bonds historically and it is upon such a solid foundation that the inter-state relations stand, Mrs Gafarova continued before witnessing her confidence that Mr Al-Angari’s arrival in our country was going to give the advancement of the Azerbaijani-Saudi relations a further impetus.

It was said also that the thirtieth anniversary of the Azerbaijani-Saudi Arabian relations had been marked in February this year as well as that a path of progress of the relations had been negotiated in the years past and that our co-operation had expanded.

As she talked about the exceptional input the high-level visits made to strengthening of the bilateral connexions, Sahiba Gafarova also touched on the visits of the leaders of the two states as a factor in the progress of the diverse interaction.

Our countries co-operate under the aegis of international organisations with considerable yield. Azerbaijan appreciates very much the Saudi support to her territorial integrity, sovereignty and inviolability of the borders recognised internationally – especially so the support voiced in the UN and the OIC. The fair stance of the Kingdom on those matters has won the equally high recognition. Incidentally, Saudi Arabia is one of those few states that never established diplomatic relations with Armenia in the first place over the Armenian aggression aimed at Azerbaijan. That was a manifestation of fraternity and a huge moral backing to the people and state of Azerbaijan.

In continuation of the conversation, Sahiba Gafarova emphasised the need to continue bolstering our inter-parliamentary relations, saying that the two assemblies influenced the expansion of the friendly ties between Azerbaijan and Saudi Arabia benignly. Besides, there are the friendship groups in both houses and their work is successful, it was pointed out.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis recalled that the Saudi guest was visiting in our country on the invitation of the Chamber of Accounts of the Azerbaijan Republic, and mentioned the Memorandum of Understanding inked between the CA and the organisation headed by Mr Al-Angari. That document is bound to make the existing legal frameworks of the two-way relations stronger, it was said.

Mrs Gafarova informed Mr Al-Angari about Azerbaijan’s liberation of its land from the Armenian occupation in the court of the 44 days’ Patriotic War of 2020. In that way, Azerbaijan also enforced the international legal principles and terminated the Armenian desecration of the cult and culture monuments pertaining to the religious values that we have in common with Saudi Arabia. Our mosques over there are being restored now; fast-paced restoration and rebuilding operations are in process in those territories. Azerbaijan is talking about peace and stability today. Our country has put forth its peace treaty signing proposals already, too, by the way.

President of the General Court of Audit of Saudi Arabia Hussam bin Abdulmohsen Al-Angari said, in turn, that his country thought highly of Azerbaijan‘s progress and the work done by her – in fact, his country is proud of both. Mr Al-Angari also expressed satisfaction with the bi-partite relations. As regards the Memorandum of Understanding signed by the General Audit Bureau of Saudi Arabia and the Chamber of Accounts of the Azerbaijan Republic, it is yet another driver behind the continuing development of the Saudi-Azerbaijani relations, in the opinion of Mr Al-Angari.

Mr Al-Angari told about the work of the Saudi law advisory assembly and shared his thoughts about the representation of women in it.

The leader of the working group for inter-parliamentary connexions with Saudi Arabia Fatma Yildirim, Chief of the Milli Majlis Staff Safa Mirzayev, Chairman of the Chamber of Accounts Vugar Gulmammadov and other officials attended the meeting, too.
