A Meeting with Canadian MPs at Milli Majlis
A group of members of the Milli Majlis had a meeting with members of the Canada-Azerbaijan inter-parliamentary friendship group on our premises on 23 May.
The leader of the Milli Majlis working group for the Azerbaijan-Canada inter-parliamentary connexions Tural Ganjaliyev welcomed the Canadian delegation led by the head of the Canada-Azerbaijan group of the House of Commons Philip Lawrence and talked about the bilateral connexions, the need to promote their continued growth and the relevant importance of inter-parliamentary co-operation.
The Azerbaijani MPs Nigyar Arpadarai and Sevil Mikayilova spoke of the role of inter-parliamentary connexions in strengthening the bilateral relations and the significance of the work done by the friendship groups of the two parliaments in this context.
Philip Lawrence, in turn, introduced the members of his delegation and said he was certain that their visit was going to make the Canadian-Azerbaijani links deeper. Mr Lawrence also underlined the importance of mutual visits and offered his ideas about the growth prospects of the bilateral relations.
The House of Commons members Jamie Schmale and Eric Melillo addressed Azerbaijan’s contribution to the energy security of Europe, regional developments and current projects.
Anar Jahanghirli of the Canadian Azerbaijani Diaspora told about the Diaspora’s work and the efforts of its members to popularise the Azerbaijani culture and language in that country.
The Milli Majlis members then told the guests about the Azerbaijani victory in the Patriotic War, the new realia in the region, integration into the Azerbaijani society of the citizens of the Armenian extraction, the steps our country is taking to install sustainable peace and ensure development in the region and the large-scale de-mining and restoration projects for the de-occupied territories of Azerbaijan.
