Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Polish Parliamentary Delegation

Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova had a meeting with the visiting head of the inter-parliamentary friendship group for Azerbaijan in the Parliament of the Republic of Poland Joanna Lichocka and members of that group.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis told the Polish delegation after greeting them that their arrival was definitely bound to make a contribution of its very own to the advancement of the bilateral relations, that the Azerbaijani-Polish diplomatic relations had turned thirty this year and that they had progressed considerably during the past decades. Mrs Gafarova also touched on the solid roots and history of the relationship.

The importance of the mutual visits of the heads of the two states and their high-ranking figures for the evolution of the bilateral ties was emphasised. It was said then that the frameworks for the ties were made up of the documents signed during those visits.

The Chair of the Milli Majlis recalled the conversation she had had with Marsha of the Polish Senate Tomasz Grodzki on the margins of the 5th World Conference of Presidents of Parliament in Vienna in September 2021. Such conversations and meetings are important, according to Mrs Gafarova, who spoke approvingly about the presence of the friendship groups in both parliaments and offered her thoughts about the growth prospects of our inter-parliamentary connexions.

A multicultural and tolerant country, Azerbaijan was the first in the East to grant the suffrage and is a place where representatives of various peoples and religions – including Poles – live as equal citizens of our state, according to the Chair of the Milli Majlis.

Also, Mrs Gafarova brought up the relations between our country and the European Union and the partnership documents that Azerbaijan had signed with nine EU member-states with Poland being amongst them.

Sahiba Gafarova also told the guests about Azerbaijan’s victory in the 44-day Patriotic War, the de-occupation of our lands and the new realia that had emerged in the region.

The leader of the group of inter-parliamentary friendship with Azerbaijan of the Polish Parliament Joanna Lichocka thanked for the hospitality and underlined the keenness of her country on continuing and promoting the comprehensive ties with Azerbaijan, adding that the Polish side were very glad of the interest in their language in Azerbaijan and the fact that the Polish language is taught at the local universities.

Women’s involvement in various walks of life in Poland, such as state administration and parliament, bolstering the bilateral socioeconomic relations and inter-parliamentary contacts and other topics were discussed then.

The head of the Azerbaijan-Poland inter-parliamentary connexions working group Sattar Mehbaliyev, Chief of the Staff of the Milli Majlis Farid Hajiyev, Azerbaijan’s ambassador in Warsaw Narghiz Gurbanova and Poland’s ambassador in Baku Rafał Poborski as well as other officials also took part in the meeting.
