Chair of Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova Meets Outbound Ambassador of Czech Republic to Azerbaijan
At their meeting on 9 June, Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova greeted the Ambassador of the Czech Republic Milan Eckert who is concluding his tenure in our country. She spoke favourably of the efforts he had made during his mission here to boost the bilateral relations and wished him every success in his continued diplomatic service.
Azerbaijan is keen on furthering the interaction with the Czech Republic and, as regards the bilateral diplomatic relations, they are turning thirty decades this year. Our countries have signed a number of co-operation documents in those years past, the most important of them being the Azerbaijani-Czech Strategic Partnership Declaration, according to Mrs Gafarova.
The exchange of high-status visits is a formidable driving force behind the growing bilateral relations. The documents signed during those visits now constitute the legal frameworks for our relationship, said the speaker of the Azerbaijani legislature.
Mrs Gafarova also touched on the part played in the progress of the Azerbaijani-Czech relations by our inter-parliamentary connexions, adding that the work done by the friendship groups in both parliaments served the interests of our nations and states.
The 44 days’ Patriotic War, the new realia established across our region and Azerbaijan’s commitment to steady peace and stability were talked of during the meeting, too. Sahiba Gafarova expressed a hope that a peace treaty would be signed between Azerbaijan and Armenia before long.
The Ambassador of the Czech Republic to Azerbaijan Milan Eckert said, in turn, that his country attached a great importance to the progress of her relations with Azerbaijan, a strategic partner to her. This strategic partnership is especially manifest in the energy sector, according to Mr Eckert.
It was said that the advancement of the relationship was useful to both sides. Mr Eckert also mentioned his work, done during the tenure in Azerbaijan, to contribute to the strengthening of the bi-partite inter-parliamentary, cultural and educational links. He recalled his travel to the de-occupied lands of Azerbaijan and having eye-witnessed the restoration and re-construction work afoot down there. The Czech ambassador emphasised the tremendous impression that the Khudaferin Bridge had made on him.
Czech companies are interested in taking part in the re-construction of the liberated territories of Azerbaijan, Mr Eckert also said.
The Czech Republic, due to take over the chairmanship of the European Union presently, advocates evolution of the EU-Azerbaijani relations and stands ready to make a contribution of her own to it, according to Mr Eckert.
As the conversation went on, they also discussed the new co-operation opportunities apt to make the bilateral inter-parliamentary connexions stronger.
