At a Scheduled Meeting of Milli Majlis-Russian Federal Assembly Inter-Parliamentary Commission

First Deputy Chair of the Milli Majlis/head of the parliamentary Legal Policy and State-Building Committee Ali Huseynli and Deputy Chair of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the RF Galina Karelova co-presided over the videoconferenced meeting of the Joint Inter-Parliamentary Commission of the Milli Majlis and the Federal Assembly, co-chaired by them, on 22 June.

The co-chairs delivered introductory speeches.

Ali Huseynli greeted the participants of the meeting on behalf of Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova and on his own. He spoke about the centuries-long friendly ties and good neighbourhood between Azerbaijan and Russia and about also the efforts of the leaders of the two states having moved our strategic partnership up to the alliance level.

Mr Huseynli also brought up the new realia having emerged in our region following the 44 days’ Patriotic War culminating in the restoration of the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan. He praised the efforts made by Russia to achieve peace and co-operation between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Galina Karelova, in turn, described Azerbaijan as a friendly state and a strategic partner to Russia, adding that the current high-status links served the interests of both sides and that Russia was energetically supporting arrangement of peace and co-operation between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Mrs Karelova also stressed that the advancing Russo-Azerbaijani connexions were adding to the stability and security in the South Caucasus and the Caspian alike.

The agenda items were addressed then.

Nizami Safarov presented a report ‘The 30 Years of the Establishment of the Azerbaijani-Russian Diplomatic Relations and the Inter-Parliamentary Co-operation Contributing to the Progress of the Inter-State Connexions’ Emin Hajiyev’s presentation was titled ‘The Current Status of the Russo-Azerbaijani Inter-Regional Relations and the Growth Prospects’ while Sevinj Huseynova talked about ‘Setting up a Favourable Ambience for Intensifying the Joint Influence in Tourism’. All the three members of the Milli Majlis shared their ideas about expanding the economic, trading, inter-regional and inter-parliamentary connexions and about the growth prospects of co-operation in culture, education and tourism, to mention but those.

The work plan of the Commission for this year and the aspects of its forthcoming 18th meeting were also looked at towards the end of the videoconference.

The deputy co-chairman of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission Agalar Valiyev and its members Rasim Musabeyov, Elnur Allahverdiyev, Azer Badamov, Arzu Naghiyev and Mikhail Zabelin took part in the virtual meeting as well.
