Sahiba Gafarova – ‘Renaming TurkPA as Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States Opens a Whole New Page, Quality-Wise, in Our Organisation’s History’
A press conference was called in Cholpon-Ata in the Kyrgyz Republic on 24 June to tell of the outcomes of the 11th plenary sitting of the TurkPA.
The speakers of the participating states’ parliaments talked at the press conference.
Chair of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova remarked as she was telling the media people about the results of the plenum that the Parliament of Azerbaijan gave great gravity to the activities under the TurkPA’s roof and continued her efforts to promote bilateral and multilateral co-operation amongst the brotherly countries’ legislatures.
The 11th plenum of the TurkPA had ended successfully; its agenda as well as the items listed up for the meeting of the Assembly Council had been very extensive, with all the matters having been discussed in a working spirit and all the appropriate decisions having been made duly, Mrs Gafarova said. She mentioned, as one of the more fateful decisions made at the plenum, the one to rename the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries as the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States – she emphasised that that move was opening a whole new page, qualitatively, in the history of the organisation whilst also putting across the shared overall intention to go on strengthening the inter-parliamentary co-operation resting on mutual trust and support.
What else the leader of the Milli Majlis said was that meetings of individual Assembly commissions, seminars dedicated to topics of shared interest, an exchange of legislative experience and electoral as well as referenda monitoring missions were all the results of the productive endeavours of the TurkPA. Especially, our fruitful interaction goes on under the aegis of the international parliamentary organisations, according to Mrs Gafarova.
The import of the Cholpon-Ata Declaration summing up the 11th plenum of the TurkPA was mentioned, too. Sahiba Gafarova emphasised that the declaration reflects the consonance and community of standpoints with regards to a number of vital issues. And then, this matters very much when it comes to mutual confidence and mutual support of the fraternal parliaments. The Speaker of the Milli Majlis particularly sent her gratitude to the Turkic parliaments for their solidarity with Azerbaijan concerning her efforts to restore and rebuild its liberated provinces and their encouragement of the intended launch of the Zangazur Corridor to give the Turkic states shorter and more efficient transport liaison.
In the end, Sahiba Gafarova was talking about her confidence in the immense importance of the 11th plenum of the TurkPA in Cholpon-Ata in terms of addressing the pending agenda of the Assembly. The decisions made at that assembly would make the bonds between the fraternal peoples and states yet more robust and the protection of their shared interests yet more efficient, Madame Speaker said assuredly.
